2024 Updates to Rail Safety Worker Health Standards
Workers are entitled to at least 10 working days’ notice before a health assessment, allowing sufficient time for preparation. For Periodic Health Assessments or non-urgent Triggered Health Assessments associated with a previous Fit for Duty Subject to Review determination, the minimum notice period is 10 working days, unless varied via mutual agreement between the operator and worker. Quality Management and Training
Mandatory Training for AHPs
All AHPs are required to complete training on the updated standards and register with the revised AHP Program. Updated procedures promote consistency, using the latest forms and protocols.
Implementation Timeline
The updated standard is effective starting 11 November 2024. From this date, all health assessments must adhere to the 2024 edition. Routine periodic health assessments should proceed as planned, without the need for adjustments.
